Default Starting Problem

We just bought a 2008 Odyssey. It has had a small problem starting a few times. The dealer can't find a problem and suggests it might be the gas we've been buying at the local Costco (Salem, Oregon). Does this sound possible? There is ethanol added in Oregon unfortunately.

More detail needed. Does the starter crank the engine over and the engine is not firing or is nothing at all happening when you turn the ignition key? 1) Could be contaminated gasoline or a fuel system problem, 2) Could be an ignition key, ignition switch or charging system issue.

That's correct... It would crank, but the engine refused to turn over until the second try. The dealer did a full diagnostic and found no problems--unable to duplicate the issue. I've tried switching to higher-priced gasoline to see if this helps.

I don't think premium will matter, so I would switch to Exxon or one of the other biggies and see if it continues. Drawing down the tank of Costco gas first would be a good idea.

This is why we love warranties!

BTW, we use Costco exclusively in-town with no problems, but of course its from an entirely different refinery than yours.

Good luck - let us know what the outcome is.

Skip the 'premium'. That's not going to do a thing for you. You may have some water in the gas tank.

I tried switching to regular (unleaded) Chevron gas and also tried an additive in case there is water in the tank. So far, so good. No more problems.
